I bought the truck used in 1998 and the truck ran great until 2004 the injector pump went out and was replaced by a dealer under warranty. At that time the truck would fish bite and cut out with very hard restarts. The truck ran great until 2006 when I decided to take it to my local Jiffy Lube for an oil change (it was raining out and I had not garage space to keep me from getting wet). Jiffy Lube drained my oil, replaced the filter and filled up my crank case. The problem was they filled the crank case with ANTIFREEZ!!!!!!!!!!! (They did this to several diesels that day). I had no idea and drove about 15 miles or so and noticed my truck was not running right. White smoke was pouring out of my tail pipe. Made it home (about ½ mile, shut the truck down and white smoke poured out of my tail pipe. Checked the dipstick and the liquid on the dipstick did not look right. Jiffy Lube admitted they had placed antifreeze in my crank case and a long story short. They fought the replacement of a new motor saying mine was not new. We settled to take cash and found a good used motor. This motor had been pulled from a suburban, but ended up being a newer cast GM replacement motor. The truck ran great for about 6 months when the injector pump went out again. Had the injector pump replaced (stock) and replaced the lift pump with an aftermarket. Over the years I have added a turbo mister, exhaust, intake, electronic shift control, and at one time I had a chip in the truck (when we did the motor swap it was removed because the new motor required a different stock chip).

3. The issue at hand is hard starting with a large puff of white smoke once started. Fish biting under harder than normal acceleration (entering highway, going up a steeper than normal grade ECT).
