Default 6.5 TD wont start sometimes and misfires when I mash down on it

3 times now, after driving 20 or so miles and shutting down my truck, when I go back to start her up she turns and turns but won't crank up, I fiddled around with the fuel pump relay then some fuses, and she wouldn't start then turned her over again for a few seconds and she fired right up, ran good other then when I mash on the pedal she misfires a little bit, I just got the truck a month ago, the guy seemed to be honest, but I think he knows something I don't I'm new to the diesel world, other than driving them at work, and checkin oil and such which is a given so PLEASE! help me figure this out, I do have a check engine light that comes on after I drive for a while, and if I let off the pedal it goes off, then when I push the pedal back down it comes back on. always the same with the check engine light, where should I begin, the code read jumper wire said the VSS is the code im getting , and EGR valve I think, what to do, seems to be some really diesel savy ppl here, just point me in the right direction please...

VSS= vehicle speed sensor

do LP and OPS test

check all grounds 2 at right rear on intake and right under the A/C dryer on firewall is 2 ground straps one goes the back right head the other goes to the frame there is ground on top IP for PMD and one ground at the right battery to fender

PMD if it hasnt been done just do it now, should be under the plastic cover that says turbo power, on the drivers side, you can leave the old one unhook the harness and run an extension harness from pmdcable.com, also change the fuel filter while you have the cover off, its super easy to do.....

No cover,, that says turbo power, never was, the pmd is new looking, and I will change the filter, but I am thinking its electrical, seems so. something besides the pmd. I think, I hope, the pmd is almost 300 dollars, i don't have.

fuel filter perhaps... not seeled proper.. happend to me then i had to bleed the filter by
1 disconect red wire off TOP of injector pump- stops egnition of glow plugs.
2 have someone crank it over for 10 seconds at a time, while you open the bleed valve(top o filter) till fuel gets up to the resivior.
3 make sure in between cranking to close valve so fuel wont backflow and suck air in.
4 red wire connect then start...
hope this is relivant and or helpful

its not like a running outta fuel kinda stall, its like if someone turned off the key kinda stall. i messed with the fuel pump, under the frame rail (driverside) and it crunk up and ran great and hasn't done it again yet, next time I will just go straight to the fuel pump wires and see if it cranks right up. but I will try your idea in the mean while. tthanx.

do a LP and OPS test first before replacing PMD but what you are staying sound like PMD gone south
