93 6.5 floods when step up idle comes on
ok here it goes i have a 93 6.5 td in a 3/4 ton chevy ... no problems till now 240000 miles.. it will start right up and the when the step up idle comes on it will start chugging and shut down. acts like its flooded and takes forever to start. when it does i get alot of blue greyish smoke that smells like raw diesel or kerosene and black smoke. i have replaced the glowplugs 2 where bad and i also found a broken ground from frame to block and repaired. anyone got any ideas this is my 1st 6.5 and i like it till now .... any suggestions would b better than none
The fuel system on the early 6.5's is fairly simple out side of major engine problem or no fuel getting to the engine there is only a few thing it can be. The first I would check would be fuel filters there cheap and easy but if I had to guess I would say the injection pump has went south on you.
it started all this after i changed the fuel filter.. when i did change i opened the air bleeder and no fuel was coming out of it and it stalls after maybe 30 seconds of running. the lp is running now after i changed the relay.. i pulled the plug to lp while running and there is 13.5 volts down there when i plugged it back in the lp is loud and rattling so i ordered a new one. getting it today.its almost like the fuel system is suckin air.. thats y i dont think its the ip.
crazy and 2muchjunk thanks for the reply... i got it fixed today it was the lp.. so i changed it and the ops at the same time as well as puting in the 97air box and new 4" exhaust runs like it never has before thanks guys
