tell you what,i will trade you even up for my 77 short box chevy with 35's and 4in lift and it already has a 355 in it,then you don't have to worry about swapping motors out.i got my 95 6.5,4.10 gears and 5spd 4wd and get 17.5 to 19 mpg's. but i don't drive like a maniac either...

lets get some things straight here you all think im a spoiled rich kid that gets everything gave to him wrong i bought this pickup with all my own money but my dad helped me on tires and a injection pump and i paid half for the s10 i had before this heres why i would want to do the switch im not thinking hard about it any more but heres why 40 gal tank at 4 dollar diesel last fill was over 160 bucks and that hurt and it lasted 3 weeks

second the 6.5 diesel is the most gutless thing ive ever driven and i dont have any money for upgrades because OF FUEL DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT!!!!!! i dont want to turn the pump up because i need gauges first guess what theres 60 bucks a piece o wait need a gauge pod theres another 60 wait lets do the exhaust 200 lets fill er up again 160+ and i dont want to sacrifice fuel economy for power now i know i shouldnt think like that but i want to be able to step on it and get around someone easily with a gasser ill actually have power and can get power easily may not get the same milaege but fuel is cheaper and that can justify it

more than likely i will sell this pickup but no one around here wants a 6.5

what kind of gas mileage are you getting?Do you do any towing?IT might be cost effective to have a small block if you drive short distances because diesels dont get good mileage till they are warm.I personally think that the 6.5 is a pretty tight motor, and would keep it if I were you.F.Y.I diesel kleen is pretty cost effective do to the fuel economy savings from my experience.makes your motor run better to.

well if ya think about it, diesel is 4 something a gallon and you are probably getting around 15-19mpg now gas may be 3 something a gallon but youll be getting about 8-10mpg all comes out to about the same in the end, and as far as the power goes, just turn the pump up and dont be a maniac on it and youll be fine!

To break the crank drive around like a maniac with a heavy foot and a turned up pump. That way you can break your engine and put in your gasser engine. But like everyone has said, fuel economy is going to go down.

If it take 160 to fill a 40 gallon tank with diesel thats $4 a gallon. Gas here is $3.50ish so to fill the tank with gas is going to be around $140. Not saving much per tank. 15mpg on the diesel = 600 miles per tank. If the gasser gets 12mpg then that is 480. So you'll have cheaper fill ups, but will be filling up more often. Do what you want, but you won't be saving yourself any money switching.

Why not start saving up money to upgrade your current setup? Sell this 350 you have and maybe buy some goodies for the diesel.
