which oil filter ???
Well to start with, I just resealed valve covers, replaced injectors, replaced glow plugs and return lines, also moved pmd to front bumper. Took a little cranking, but she fired right up. Now to my question: I first put a Fram oil filter on and the oil was seaping out around the base of the filter, so I tried a Car Quest; same thing then, a Wix. The rubber on the Wix seems to be thicker then the others. The book that came with the truck says ac/pf1218 which no one seems to carry. Has anyone come across this before? If so, which filter are you guys using? Also, many thanks to all that answered my questions, told me where to find parts, all great information. Thanks.

Here's a little bit of an inside look at the differance between Fram and, in this case, Baldwin.
Comparison is not exact given that the 2 filters are not interchangeable but it does give you an idea as to the construction differences between them.
First thing you notice about the Fram is the "cardboard" used to hold the pleats in place. Secondly is the metal piece on top used to "plug" the center of the filter forcing the oil to actually be filtered. This piece combined with the cardboard construction is one of the reason Fram filters fail. I have seen them blown out to where they are not filtering any of the oil.
When compared to the Baldwin you can easily see how much more "heavy duty" the Baldwin is. Baldwin, as well as others like Wix and Napa Gold, use a solid metal top and bottom to hold their filters together.
The number of pleats as well as the depth of the pleats plays another factor. The baldwin filter brings the pleats all the way out to the edge of the filter while the Fram leaves a 1/4" of space around the perimeter. In addition the Baldwin filter has almost twice as many pleats per inch providing much more efficient filtering.

Since the original question was for a 6.2 or 6.5, I assume that is what the filter fits? I want to put it on my 6.2. (Just noticed the avatar for the fellow that mentioned it was a Ford pickup...
Thanks!
