Default New, need help

I'm new to all this, I just bought a 94 GMC 1500 4x4 6.5 turbo, got it for $1900 so I thought I wasn't getting too bad of a deal. It runs good, makes a lot of noise but I don't know what is normal for diesel. I'm only using it for my hunting truck so I won't be putting a lot of miles on it. But it makes a whinning or squealing noise when you first start it up then after a while it goes away. The guy I bought if from told me it was the starter so he took some off the price. Is it the starter or something worse? What do I need to do, I appriciate anything pointers you can give me. It has 186,000 miles on it.

I haven't got under it all the way yet and really listened but it sounds like its coming from under the driver side door around in that area. The sound will increase when you give it gas but after a while after you drive it, it will go away then when you shut it off it will start up again.

sound like you are hearing the lift pump it sit right under driver door on the frame, you should hear it when you turn key on in till glow plug light shut off then when start truck start it should turn back on and when shutting off you should hear it in till oil psi drop 0

yeah that makes sense. i would describe it as more of a buzzing sound though and its completely normal sound for these trucks

Can you do a video of it and place it on youtube. I know we can pinpoint it and help you diagnose it!

hey guys got it fixed, the guy wasn't lying to me. it was the starter. Just needed to be adjusted, cost me $35 bucks. Thanks for everything I'll know I'll have more questions. I do have one, where are the fuel filters on this model and how often do they need to be changed.
