Default oil in down pipe

got a 94 3500 dually crew cab. F- code 6.5 turbo. i am seeing some oil out of the downpipe. it is leaking a little around the clamp where it connects to the turbo and running down the pipe. i know you can rebuild the turbo, but where can i get the rebuild kit? there is nothing on the tag except the number 38717. i have a spare turbo that says GM-4 borg warner IHI. it has play in the shaft. gotta rebuild one of them. but which one is best or are they the same? and again, where to get the kit? thanks

its very possible your soot trap is plugged and creating excessive backpressure on the turbo which would make this problem worse.

soot trap was plugged.i punched it out, ran the engine till the excess oil was out of the turbo. doin fine now. as far as i can tell, there is no more oil coming from around the clamp on the downpipe. got a nice whistle now too. . thanks to all

What do you mean by the "soot trap" and "punched it out"?

Are you talking about the filter on the valve cover connected to the intake at the turbo?

no there is a soot trap on most 6.5 trucks that basically filters some of the soot the engine makes and is in the exhaust system. its similar to a catalyic converter but its not. eventuallt they get clogged up with soot and plug. on mine you coulnd't see any light through it. so if you need it to pass emissions you can cut the top and then cut out all the honeycomb material that filters and you can still pass emissions but have better perfromance.

i never cut the top on mine. i took off the pipe on one end of it and unbolted it from the downpipe side. took a small pipe and hammer and punched everything out of it. then put it back on. then cut off the muffler. sounds better, runs better and got a nice whistle from the turbo now as well.

So your talking inside the down pipe off the turbo? The bent *** one from factory?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

mines straight from down pipe, no cats and no muffler.
