CUCV Blazer questions
I have an opportunity to purchase an old military Blazer (CUCV) and I am wondering if they are worth the time and trouble to recondition them. This one has a 6.2 liter diesel engine and an automatic transmission. It runs and drives okay. The body will need a little work and it is missing a piece of glass. But it started quickly, after I held the glow plug bypass button for a minute or so and the transmission shifts fine. I didn’t actually get to try out the 4 wheel drive, but the transfer case seems to shift into and out of gear fine. I can’t be sure about the hubs until I can get it off road.
The asking price on the truck is $1800 and it shows 48K miles. I don’t know if the miles are actual. There is no way to tell that I know of. The owner says he doesn’t know. He did buy it from the Air Force some years ago when they were going to auction it off.
I have my 2001 Cummins, so I don’t need this to tow and haul with.
Any advice on these trucks (SUVs), especially the drive train would be appreciated.
TIA,
KwS

Whether or not to redo it depends on you. If you are wanting to know whether or not its worth it on a dollar stand point probably not. If you total up all the time and money you will put in it it will exceed the value of the truck so you have to do it because you like them.
There a pretty good truck. From what I hear they have a real low gear in them that hurts on the fuel mileage a bit but my 6.2 with 4.10 gears still gets mid 20's. Just dont plan on getting an any races with anyone.
