Laugh Diamond Eye Exhaust

some of you guys were asking about the diamond eye exhaust i got. well i fiinally got it on. overall its a pretty good kit. the only real problem i had was that it seems like they gave me the wrong hanger clamp for one of rubber hangers. well i just reused the factory one and welded on to the kits clamp to make it fit.

i also wish they would identify which hanger goes where because i had to rearange a few to get them to fit properly. its a one kit fits all chevy trucks so one cut is required to get it to fit under the truck. finally remember the golden rule dont tighten up anything too much before you got everything in place. im glad i did this because i had to twist the downpipe on the turbo to get the pipe it was connected to, to line up with the pipe it was going to connect to.

driving it now i cant wipe the smile off my face combined with a 4 inch dynomax bullet muffler which isnt much of a muffler the truck rumbles like a big block till you get on it and you hear the turbo whistle and people turn there heads. drone is minimal till you hit 2500 rpms then clears once you hit 3100. my butt dyno also shows a little bit of a power increase. any more questions just ask.

Congrats on your new exhaust....on a scale of 1-10 how hard was the install? how long did it take, and what tools do you recommend?

is this bolted to the stock downpipe?

do you have an aftermarket intake, did you remove the turbo silencer ring?...or can you hear the turbo just because of the exhaust alone...

lots of questions but I am thinking of getting the same one....

thanks

i guess maybe a 4 on the scale of 1 to 10. wasnt very hard but the hardest part was honestly taking off the old system because i had a crappy sawzall that would not cut strait and a dull blade. getting the down pipe to fit on the turbo and making the custom hanger were the hardest part on putting in the system. i did this over two nights but i didnt always work continously on it so maybe 3-3.5 hours.

get a sawzall with a sharp blade. also i put my truck on jacks and it made it a lot easier to do with all the extra room. pb blaster or some other type of lubricant is good to get old exhaust hangers to come out of the rubber hangers.

it also helps to get new hangers that have lips on them to slide easily in. i also painted mine with some high heat paint so it would not rust as easily. other than that just a 9/16 deep socket , regular 9/16 socket, 9/16 wrench, and a 7/16 wrench.

this system comes with a 3 inch downpipe. i got one of those crappy hot air ss diesel supply air intakes that i bought before i knew any better. that helps the turbo whistle but kills some power. theres no silencer ring on gm x series turbos but on the stock air intake there is a "turbo muffler" that you can remove.

but the exhaust really did make it whistle more. i would get this sytem just because its the only 4 inch sytem out there that is less than 300 bucks.

i do think the clamps were great except one did not fit the hangers that it was supposed to.

Thanks for the indepth info.... I figured the hot air intake helped. I plan on getting the same exhaust kit for my truck, cant beat the price... where did you purchase this from? ebay?

I also plan on running it straight thru, no cat, no muffler.

Thanks woody35

It's the hard plastic piece that comes straight out of the air intake from the turbo, then hangs a 90 towards the drivers side. Just unbolt the end, yank it out, and plug the hole

I don't want to start an argument, so I should prolly just let it be. But I have the ssdiesel intake as well, I know it pulls hot air, but it didn't help nor hurt my truck. I see the only difference being that if you pull more hot air, as opposed to pulling less cold air there should really be no difference, other than you don't have to replace the stock filter every time. I would really like to see the flow data and iats to prove which is better. Unfortunately none of the suppliers will show us hard data...

but the more cold air you pull in the more power you make do to it being more dense than hot air. all i know is that at full throttle i have a haze of black smoke coming from my truck. my computer is stock with no reflash for more power and my vaccum pump and soleiod was replaced two months ago so my wastegate is working fine. this never happened with the stock air intake on. im just addicted to the turbo whistle

I liked the additional whistle as well, but I never really noticed a difference. I always had a little smoke at the top end when I hit it, that is until I added my homemade TM. If you remember a while back I was having all sorts of issues with my vacuum system so I gave up on it.

I did get a bit of whistle out of my exhaust, but the stacks really directed it up so you couldn't hear it unless you were under something. I had a custom exhaust made, no muffler but there again, with the exhaust directed up its not so bad, unless I'm at a drive through...

Good to hear you enjoy the exhaust, I know I did when it was done.
