what needs to be done every so often to keep one of these things alive?

 

Change both fuel filters, oil, run clean diesel fuel, and when the engine starts running rough get the injectors pop tested to make sure there not leaking down and are running even. Other than that there is not a whole lot to a 6.2 they are pretty simple.

 

Don't run em out of fuel, otherwise the injection pump will go south on ya pretty fast.

 

injectors every 100k miles and when you get new ones dont trust the manufacturer. get them pop tested. throw in some 2 stroke oil or 30 weight non detergent oil in every tank to lube up injection ppump because of the lack of sulfur in ulsd diesel

 

2 stroke oil??? like how much per tank?

diesel fuel was a lot different when these injection pumps were designed so the way we maintain them has to be different too.

 

what about the additives? that u can buy off the shelf at auto parts stores? and what kind of places pop test injectors? would any machine shop do it or would it be better left to a diesel specific shop?

 

You could put some power service in the tank but I don't really put to much faith in over the counter fix all additives. A injection shop will have to pop test the injectors.
