Had hard starting for a couple of weeks,then one morning drove about 1 mile from home,turned the corner and had no power,went for 100-200 yrs then died.Tried to start the truck,crank over then stop like a vaper lock up,then cranked again.Finally got it started and still ran rough but got it home.Later that evening tried to start it,same thing,ran rough.After it warm up for 5 min. it started to knock real loud like rod knock,and then a off & on high picth squeal came from the motor also.Had some people tell me the knock was a fuel ping noise but they couldn't tell me the sqealing.Then I had trans. fluid leaking for inspection cover pretty bad.Wondering if torque conv. could be the cause of the problem.

 

I am not to sure about the T/C issues but I know some of our trucks at work with the 6.5's have starting and "vapor lock" issues and its cause by the fuel pump overheating believe it or not pouring water on injection pump gets them to start right up. I don't know if that can help you but just a little bit of random 6.5 knowledge I wanted to let you in on.

Oh just a question how long have you had the truck? was it ever a prior military truck?

 

This is a mechanical pump.non-turbo unit.Did everything that people were telling me to do,comp. test,inj. tested.feed pump test,alldata said min. 4psi,it had 5psi.So then everybody told me it was the inj.pump,so I replaced it and still the same thing.hard starting,all kinds of smoke grey & black sometime then white and sometime nothing at all until 2-3000rpm.runs very rough.Saw on a part list for my truck that there was and air pump,could not find one on the truck,the part looks like and egr valve.I'm chasing my tail for now.I've own this 1999,put a rebuilt motor in it 2yrs ago.
