I had A 1995 6.5 td. I had to remove the pmd off the pump because it overheated in the factory location at operating temp. May not be the problem but worth checking into. I put it on on a relocation kit that mounted to the intake bolts. Apply permatex white lithum grease (small tube) you don't need much between the pmd and heat sync. Could also be or oil pressure switch(ops).Which run the fuel pump on the frame. I bought from ssdiesel supply.com a 6.5 specialty company they also have FAQs on there site. (Most GM OPS switches on these trucks are insuffent for the amp draw of pump). I had no problem with their aftermarket parts. I would check OPS first.

putting a pmd on the intake will just kill it faster than it its on the pump. think about it heat rises. so all the heat is rising and hitting that pmd. pmd on the pump is getting cooled by diesel as your running so it stays cool. the problem is when you shut off the truck and the pmd is sitting in a bath of very hot air. when its on the intake its in a bath of hot air all the time.the faqs on pmds and air intakes on ss diesel are in my opinion a bunch of BS. all the people writing in on that site are telling you right as soon as they installed his kit.
i never see any reviews 1 or 2 years after putting a pmd on the intake. it works for some people but not most and why not take a safe bet and put it on the bumper.
450sandridr waht does your truck idle at once you start it up.
