I volunteered to work on a friends 6.5.............it just up and quits running sometimes, re starts but hard

I think its fueling issues but I aint never worked on one of these things

it will be in my shop on monday.....any tips or guidence here????

 

what year? any codes? if its fuel make sure fuel filter is clean. check to see if lift pump is working. put fuel pressure gauge up to t handle in front of engine and see how much pressure its putting out. blow out fuel lines to insure no crap is restricting them. there is a sock in the tank that filters out also and sometimes that gets really clogged. check that. i bet he has a restriction somewhere and lp cant pump enough fuel to get around it to supply the engine. also check for airleaks

I think its fuel related as well.........I am starting at the tank....he has the bed off so that will make it somewhat easier

what is a PMD?????

 

It's some sort of module that controls the injection pump.

 

so its electronic and nuttin I can do other than replace it eh?

 

it would be better if you relocated it to the bumper with a new pmd attached. gotta start with easiest things first. pmds are 300 bucks new

 

the whole fuel system is full of crap............seams like its paint flakes????????

the thing is runnin like a raped ape now..........well yaknow maybe a 6.5 can just run like an ape......forget the raped part
