thats pretty good for big tires you got. my truck is currently out of service because of a trans cooler line leak so i havent really drove in the winter much. but before with all city driving a little towing i got 14. i can get 16 in the summer too. i got new injectors in so my mileage should increase a little. i got 3.42 gears so my truck does great on the highway but in the city its not that great accerlation wise so i have to get on it a bit.

I have a 94 6.5 td and I have stock size tires on it with 4.10 gears and I'm running all #1 fuel and I leave it ideling alot more because its winter but I'm getting about 12mpg now but if I switch to #2 fuel I should get better mpg. I just rebuilt the motor and I have about 600 miles on it so far and new glow plugs. I was wondering how long I can leave it shut off without pluging it in and it still starting. It gets about 0 to -5 out right now. I find myself going out and starting it about every 3hrs and running it for about half an hour when I'm out ice fishing. It always starts right up but I dont want to find myself stranded out fishing.

with half of my glowplugs not working and not plugging it in i could leave my truck for a week without starting in 40 degree weather and it would start after a minute of cranking. with a brand new rebuilt engine you could be fine with it sitting out there all day

Even when it gets below zero out? My grandpa told me he had a 86 6.2 and was at a super 8 and pluged his truck in that night. When he came out to start it he saw the plug was bad at the super 8 and it was 30 below zero and it started for him. I guess I'm just nurvis cuz I had a 94 7.3 turbo that wouldn't start if it was not pluged in. But I dont plug my 6.5 in unless its below 30 out. What kind of oil should I run in that 6.5? Its a 1994 with less than 1000 miles on it but the truck has 247,000 on it. I bought the truck for $1300 and drove it for 3 days and the motor started to knock real bad so I found a chunk of a ring in the top of the piston. So I have more money in the truck than its worth so I need it to run forever Would you suggest running a qt of tranny flued in the fuel with each fill up? I heard someone say something about 2stroke oil???? what does this do? But the tranny fluid would turn the fuel RED I ordered the PMD relocate and a #9 resistor. Is the fuel saver chip a good idea and if so what brand and how much should I look to spend on it. I also saw a shift enhancer for the 4l80e is this a good idea?? Air induction is this worth it or can I make my own for cheeper?? I dont know alot about a diesel but I love them

thats a lot of questions! i would plug it in if its below 35 but once you start it up and drive it to the lake to go ice fishing it should be fine unless its somewhere around -30 out. and i wouldnt be fishing in that type of weather. dont use tranny fluid it will screw up your injectors. use two stroke oil or non detrergent 30 weight oil in every tank of diesel. i usually put 16-20 ounces in my 26 gallon tank.

this lubricates the fuel system since ULSD diesel has no lubricty and can damage your injectors or injection pump. i would get a performance chip because there is not a ton of difference between the fuel economy numbers. just got to learn to keep your right foot light on the pedal.

i would get a heath chip, engh motors, or kennedy diesel. shift kits are always good but not nesscary unless you plan on beating your truck to a pulp or towing big stuff.

your chip will have a transmission program in it that will help your tranny survive better. get a 1997-2000 air intake. they are the best ones. the afe one is nice too but pricey. all the other stuff is just gimmicks

From the time I installed the 4 inch pipe, my milage went down 1-2 mpg. I was thinking of adding a restrictor on the tail pipe end to see if keeping some heat in the engine would help. Maybe more in our "nice" winters here. Just had some 15 below here lately... Jan & Feb will bring our 30 & 40 below days. YAY...
