Some Questions on 97 6.5
1. my truck is a little low on oil and will be getting a oil change next week. A red light on the dash says engine service soon.is this because im low on oil or is this the check engine light.
2. how many quarts of oil does a 97 6.5 hold. the truck did not come with a manuel and a quick google search didnt come up with anything. i figure if you guys know off hand you may help me.
3. three different times a Water in Fuel light has come on. truck runs fine and it is right after a cold start and never comes on again through out the day. is this condensation or ice in the fuel lines or something else like a bad sensor.
4. in my tdi you can keep the glowplugs as long as you want i guess until the battery goes dead. in the 6.5 i let the glowplugs go for a little bit like 20 seconds after the Wait to Start light went out because it was below zero for the last 2 days and the truck is parked outside. anyway the truck turned over but did not fire like the engine wasnt giving any fuel to engine to fire. then i took the key out ,put it back in and waited for the Wait To Start light to go off then i turned the key and it started right up. is this normal or is something wrong with the truck.
5. anyone know where i could pick up a owners manuael for this truck or any type of manuel for troubleshooting it.
6. Ive heard these motors may have turbo silencers like in the cummins. is this in the air intake and how do i remove it.
Thanks in advance for all your info

1. My truck does that when it's time for an oil change as well, might want to add a quart of 10/30 in there just to hold you over and to help thin out the thickened oil a bit.
2. Should be about 7qts, check at a local auto store when you pick up the filter and oil, they'll be able to tell you for sure.
3. Could be a bad sensor or you could have a little water in your fuel, might be time to drop the tank.
4. When it's cold you might have to cycle the plugs a few times, they cycle on and off like that.
5. SSDiesel Supply :: GM 6.5 TD Specialists, PMD failure, FSD heat sync kit.
6. No idea
Hope that helped.

well I Changed the Oil today and it drained fine but it took me 3 hours to change the POS oil filter. i broke 3 wrenches trying to turn it. finally i a friend to turn with me at the same time and it fnally started to turn and i got it off.
well i filled it up with Shell Rotella 15W40 oil. it was free so i coulnt pass it up. i will fill it up with some amsoil synthetic next time. i started it and took it around the block and the oil pressure was very high like 65 PSI. it only gets like this when i do full throttle runs.
So i did a 3/4 throttle run and oil ressure hit 75 PSI. is this normal when you do a oil change. i figure the oil pump is getting oil to all the places in the engine after its been drained of it and its working over time to get it back there. let me know if this is normal and does the Service engine soon light go off or do i have to clear it. thanks
