Default 168 tooth flexplate- starter

First off thanks for reading and Merry Chriatmas. So i installed a 168 tooth flexplate on my 1983 6.2 diesel. Being told by my trans guy that the starter for the 153 tooth flexplate would work. Now im on my 2nd starter casing due to it splitting in half and i have chewed up my starter drive gear. Need help guys. Is it possible to just find the bendix?

I thought a 6.2/6.5 flexplate was 139 tooth. If so I doubt a stock starter is compatible with a 168 tooth.
