thanks turbine. been busy in shop so just now getting back to this thing. just for kicks made up a fitting in place of the fuel sol. same problem. as this is i guess a drive by wire system, there has to be another sol or valve inside that regulates fuel flow to vary speed. not worried about crash as i can't drive it that far. have my own obd tester and has no codes. on my cummins the grd at the batt caused all kinds of things but had a code. checked and cleaned filter inside also.

Main ground on the 6.5 is on rear passenger side cylinder head.

Did that help? what fuel sol did you bypass the shutdown sol on the IP ? (silver canister that points up ?)

Fuel delivery on the 94+ 6.5s with DS4 IPs is regulated by the PCM that sends signal to the PMD when mounted on side of the IP (black box about size of a deck of cards) the is an OP amp that conditions the PCM signals and send to the fuel solenoid mounted on the back end of the IP that regulated fill/spill ports internally on the fuel distribution end of the IP.

If PMD/FSD (what it really is especially when removed off of the IP)vs. PMD Pump Mounted (fuel solenoid) Driver is bad and a prime candidate here if everything else checks out, it will cause the issue you are seeing and hard to diagnose, I carry a spare for "just in case".

If a FSD has ever been mounted in the engine bay and you are seeing what you are seeing it is suspect, and a "used but good" driver ever mounted in the engine bay in my opinion/experience since 2000 with multiple 6.5s it that it also is suspect and only good for a "glove-box get home spare" or troubleshooting aid.

Best deal on new drivers I've found are Leroy Diesel and paired with one of his remote mounting kits.

Can be found on ebay cheaper but I've seen as many bad as good come from ebay, go with Leroy he has a great reputation in the 6.5 community.

one more silly question. could the fuel solenoid on the back of the pump cause my problem?
