Question GM 6.2L OEM Exhaust

Does anyone know why GM went with the single 3" inlet / dual 2.25" outlet exhaust on the 6.2L? Would it really matter if I changed it to a single 3" inlet / single 3" outlet?

My 93 has that single to dual on it but my 94 had the single 3 on it I suspect it was cheaper to manufacture it with less pipe is my guess.

Changed my 1990 3/4 ton to single 3" with 3" cherry bomb muffler. Runs a lot better!
