Hey guys I recently acquired a 93 Chevy 3500 srw 2wd with a DB2 6.5/nv4500 from a friend who replaced the motor in it with one from a 94 DS4(?) pump motor, he swapped all the mechanical pump stuff over but never got it running again. I got it and put on 2 new batteries and jumped the oil pressure sensor wire to turn on the lift pump to get fuel going and turned It over a bit, turns over and sounds fine and is smoking from getting fuel but won't fire. Glow plugs are turning on and off like they should also. I'm wondering if the timing isn't correct, he said he set it to where the ds4 pump was but is that correct or do I need to set it to the db2? I've never messed with the timing on one of these so I'm unsure. Any help or list of things to check and make sure would be appreciated! Thanks.

 

Is The engine turning over fast enough a 6.5 really needs to spin over fast.and are you sure you are getting enough fuel?

 

Pull the glow plugs and crank until there is good fuel spray out of the glow plug holes, reinstall the plugs and make sure you are spinning atleast 150rpm.
