Default 1995 suburban 6.5 TD Air pump noise?

Hi every one just want to say I love the sight lots of great info on here. It has been along time sense I have had a diesel and a lot has changed over the years. Who ever thought you could use performance and 6.2 or 6.5 the same sentence Any way I picked up a 95 burb with the 6.5 TD. She has 280000. miles on it runs out good. Got it home after a 450 plus mile trip the only thing it did was run like a champ (BUT) had a lag in the throttle and a hic up shudder every now and then. After getting it home I did a oil change, fuel filter change and an air filter change what a dumb air box! poor fit and some one drilled holes in it I assume to let more air in. Anyway the Air pump makes some noise may be time for a new one, but if all it dose is work the waste gate can I remove it and put on a manual waste gate controller being sold now. Thanks for your input I will be working on this rig to make it just right. No I don't care to role coal or pull Mt. Rushmore off its base hehe, Just want a good rig to take the whole family out on road trips and pull a small boat from time to time.

Yes the vac pump can be removed and use a shorter serpentine belt n a manual turbo master wastegate
