Default Chevy 6.5 What should I be looking for when going to look at one.

Hello everybody, I am planning o. Going to look at a 1995 Chevy k2500 next week with a 5 speed manual in it. It has 255,000 miles on it. Is It worth going to look at it? The owner has put many brand new parts on it and should I be worried about the miles on these engines. Thank you very much!

255,000 is nothing on these engines as long as they have regular maintenance done to them ask the owner if the flywheel has been changed to a single mass flywheel the dual mass flywheels fail and after the test drive try restating it a easy start is good hard to start is a sign of the IP (Injection Pump) going out ask if the PMD has been relocated outside of the engine bay if not you will want to do this and while the truck is running and warmed up pull the oil dipstck out and look for smoke (blow by) a little is normal pouring out of the dipstick is bad worn piston ring another sign of being poorly mantained with a little care a 6.5 will last a very long time I had another 93 6.5 with over 800,000 on it before the body fell apart, hope this helps anymore questions I will try my best to help.pss the factory turbos don't whistle.

Do your homework on the 6.5. Make sure it suits your needs. They are fuel efficient and cheap to work on compared to other diesels, but don't think that your getting the power of other diesels.

There is a very nice list in the 6.5 FAQs on Dieselplace .com for what to do when buying a 6.5 diesel, that should answer all your questions. Feel free to post up anything else after you've read through that. I can link you to it if you can't find it.

List is too long for things too look for but a simple google search will tell. If you plan on using it for towing make sure you run through the gears and see if you'll be satisfied. The nv4500 5 speed has a big 3-4 shift gap. I love the trans behind my Chevy Cummins it eats gap up quick . but for 6.5s I prefer automatics trans just lugs it too much unless u shift 26-2800rpms

I agree that the gear gap is awkward with the 6.5 and nv4500. It's nice if you really wind it up before shifting, though. Otherwise you're always lugging it after every shift.
