6.5 black smoke, power loss

Loss of power and black smoke is most commonly caused by issues with the vacuum system. The easy test is to try to move the waste gate arm on the turbo with the truck running. This should not be easy to move. If you can, then start checking for vacuum at the pump (>15 inHg) and move down the line until you find the issue.
1. Vacuum pump
2. Vacuum lines
3. Vacuum solenoid
4. Waste gate actuator
Try this out first and let us know how it turns out. If this is not the issue there are a few other things to check out. If your vacuum system is in need of repair you may want to look into switching to a manual boost controller

Black smoke can be caused by the turbo not supplying enough air or if you have a damaged injector. When the truck is at idle you should see more then 15 inches of vacuum. If you can move the waste gate when the truck is running then you have an issue with the vacuum system.
