crazy idea for 6.5 diesel
Once you get over 15 psi boost it will be a bomb waiting to happen-they just aren't stout enough to take it no matter what you do as far as making them tougher.
Drop compression to 18:1 and they can stand 20 psi for a while.

A wastegated turbo will work, but the 6.5 was never known to be very stout. They will run a long time if you dont abuse them or pull heavy loads. Kind of wimpy IMO. The introduction of the Duramax was a huge improvement for Chevy and GMC. The turbo itself is a big restriction as is the rest of the exhaust system. Improving exhaust flow and turbo will help performance as will a CAI but dont expect alot.
Bigal if Your Looking For A Little More Power Get Yourself A TurboMaster Manual Boost Controller, The PMD #9 resistor And Get The Upgraded 2.25" Mandral Bent Crossover PIpe And 3" Turbo DownPipe Kit From Ssdieselsupply From There I Put A 4" adapter And Ran A Custom SidePipe exhaust. I Turned Up The Turbo To Around 10-12 Psi At Wot It's Not Much But Def felt ImprovementS. Don't Mind The Caps Every Word My Phone Is Screwed Up
Lots of people are adapting the Holset HX40 turbo to fit from the cummins.
It has less backpressure, makes boost easier ,runs cooler and can make more boost but is still a wastegated turbo.
No need to re invent the wheel when it's already been done.
