Problems with Starting/Running 6.5 TD
Hey there, I'm new to forums but am at a complete loss with my 1997 6.5td. When the ignition is switched on I get power to my stereo and the gear indicator light comes on, but none of the gauges or check lights come on. It still turns over but will not fire. At one point the the ignition did work and I got it running but as soon as I put it in gear it died, and has been dead since. I've checked fuses and wiring in the steering column but still haven't found anything. I've spent close to 8 hours searching forums and websites for info but no luck. Please help!!

Ignition switch in the steering column is a multi contact switch-ther is a heavy load on the feeds for the dash and ECM and it melts/burnsout,common problem.
Change out the ignition switch and you will be good to go.
The electrical part of the switch is independent from the key cylinder FYI and is located under/closer to the steering wheel from the cylinder..
