Default nv4500 conversion?

Im losing 3rd gear in my 92 4x4. I have a 94 2x4 parts truck with a recently rebuilt tranny.

is it possible to get the 2x4 tranny to accept my transfer case or am I better off rebuilding? Thanks

better off rebuilding.

To change the 2wd nv4500 to 4wd, you would have to disassemble both trans to swap out the output shafts because the 4wd output shaft (and tail housing) is shorter, and then swap tail housings.

It would be easier to disassemble one trans and rebuild.

Thanks for the offer but im in KS so the shipping would probably kill me. The local trans shop quoted me $900 for a full rebuild. 600 if the rest of the tranny looks good and they just fix the 3rd gear problem.
