1996 Chevy 6.5L Turbo - Won't Crank
I'm back with a cranking problem. I turn the key and get nothing. I don't even get the sound of the lift pump going....
- Battery test - good, both are at 12.5v
- Neutral Safety Switch test - good
- Relay test on position 85 - good
- Relay test on position 87 - not good. Cannot get power on test lamp or DVOM
- Turn headlights on and dome light, turn ignition and get a little dimming if any.
- Turn radio, heater fan, and turn signal on and turn ignition. Radio and heater fan go off immediately.
Any thoughts really appreciated.

Hope this is what you are looking for:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---
Still no fix....
post 87 on fuel relay from what I can find is supposed to go "hot" for a couple of seconds when cranking the engine. I get a constant 0.1 on the DVOM when ignition is "on"
My next fix per Chilton manual is to check the bulkhead fusible link and ignition cable.
I know I have two fusible links to the glow plugs. Does anyone know where I can find the bulkhead fusible link and do I need to disassemble steering housing to check the ignition cables?
This is perplexing so any help would be appreciated.
Cleaned and tightened grounds still nothing.

There are fusible links on the heavy terminal of the starter.
That relay is difficult to understand-never saw one drawn that way before.
If terminal 30 also has no power, try this:
If you have the truck safely parked, try quickly jumping terminal 85 and 30 of the relay socket and see if the starter engages.
If so you need to solve the power problem on terminal 87.
If terminal 30 is always hot try jumping 30 and 87-if the starter engages the relay is bad provided that terminal 86 has a good ground.
