IMO 1993 is the best year for the 6.5 as it is free of all the electronics that tend to give 1994 and newer 6.5 owners a lot of headaches and at $900 you would be able to part it out and make money on it at the least

/\ agreed. I have a 93 as well. If the rest of the truck is in good/great condition, an engine rebuild could be justifiable if you did it yourself. I paid $1700 to rebuild mine and that included overbore and new pistons, along with having the crank turned.

With 200k plus miles and existing problems on the motor I would wonder how much longer she will be running. If you buy it plan on dropping in an Optmizer 6500 (engine cost approximatly $6,200) and being able to drive the rig for 400k miles. Their are cheaper engines but if you are replacing it why be cheap about it. Just make sure the truck its self will last that long.

If you are already familiar with a duramax you won't be remotely satisfied with a 6.5TD.

The truck itself in my opinion is one of the nicest looking body styles though so I would buy it and do a duramax or 24v cummins swap.
