Default How do I test my IP?

I got a 93 K3500 CC with the 6.5 TD. They guy I got it from said he just put a new IP on it but, there is a lot of stuff I'm finding out was bullshit that he said. That being said, I was running a wire along the frame rail for my electric brakes, and came across a Mr. Gasket Diesel Micro Fuel Pump... I'm thinking that was his way of "replacing" the IP but I don't know. This is my first diesel, so I'm not positive what I'm doing...

There is supposed to be an inline fuel pump on the frame-it is the lift pump that supplies fuel to the injection pump.

Look at the injection pump-does it look new?
Does it have an extra metal stamped tab under a screw that signifies rebuilt?

Ya, the lift pump makes sense... As far as the injection pump, I don't even know where it is let alone how to tell if it's new.

Follow the metal lines fastened to the top of the injectors back to the IP under the intake at the frt of the engine.

OK, I found it. It doesn't look new, but it doesn't look as nasty as everything else under the hood. Although it is cover in a fine film of diesel fuel....
