6.5 crank position sensor removal
I have located and removed the retaining bolt that holds the crank position sensor. I then tried to use a screw driver to lift the sensor and the metal bracket that holds and positions the sensor broke off. Now I only have the wires leading into the sensor to lift it out with. Using a long off set needle nose pliers I have tried lifting the sensor but there is too much resistance and applying more force would just break the wires. help
I had the same experience a couple years ago with my 1994 6.5 they become brittle with age you will have to have a right angle drill start with a 1/8th inch drill bit drill about 1 1/4 inches into the old CSS start with a 1/8 lag bolt 2 inches long get some over sized washers that will fit the bolt without slipping off use a pickle fork or tie rod seperater place behind the washers and start prying out the old CSS you will probaly want to get a few larger lag bolts stepping up in sizes I finally got mine out with a 3/8 or a 1/2 inch lag bolt if you put anything besides AC/delco or I found that Napa has one that looks and performs like the AC you will fix nothing do not use a borg warner or BWD brand Crank Shaft Sensor total waste of money them brands
Exactly as Mayhem said, I did almost the same exact thing. Make sure you don't replace it with a BWD cps, I just earlier today had to replace mine. Didn't realize it but the reason my truck ran like total poo was because of said BWD sensor.
