Default 93 6.5 performance exhaust.

I just bought my first diesel yesterday. A 93 6.5 td ext cab 4x4 3500 with a nv4500 with 224k. Got it as a steal! Im newish to the diesel world i have been looking for a turbo back performance kit. I hear diamond eye is a good kit but the problem i run into with looking for kits is when i enter my year of truck (depending on the company) 93 and older is in the 6.2 catagory and 94 and newer is in the 6.5 and newer catagory. Is that a grey area? Will the exhaust kit still work for my 6.5 being that the company has the 93 diesel as a 6.2 rather than the correct 6.5. Any help would be great. Thanks. My back ground is jeeps, gm trucks and chevy muscle cars.

The 6.2 engines were never turbo'd from the factory, so I would say no it won't work. I bought me a flowmaster downpipe and welded 4" pipe back to my tailpipe (my truck already had a 4" tailpipe). Also be aware that your NV4500 has the slave cylinder on the passenger side of the transmission instead of internally like the later transmissions do, so if you buy a crossover pipe make sure it will fit around your slave cylinder (I learned that the hard way).

just buy a aftermarket downpipe, then take it to a auto shop and have them weld in 4 inch back, also be careful watch your oil in that thing. Notorious for oil problems, mine seized up, checked the oil the day before drove it the dxt day about 8 miles to the store and ran it empty locked up tight.

The issue im haveing is my truck is a 93 with the 6.5, ill search for a full exhaust kit and the companys i found have the 93 under the 6.2 and 94 under the 6.5. Im most likely gonna just toss a better muffler on it and call it good. @tyler oil problems as in the motor or nv4500? I have been going bumper to bumper on this truck since i bought it last monday.

Correct. But it makes me question the exhaust kit if the 6.5 is labeled under a 6.2. I looked at the banks sidewinder pkg and its labeled as a 6.2 until 93.

like RedChevy44 said, 6.2s were never turbo'ed from the factory. But more in depth, 6.2 was used until 93 and the 6.5 came out in 92. There is a grey area there, but use the 94 year model to find turbo related and/or 6.5 specific parts.

I also have a factory 6.5T 93 model truck, I've been there trying to find parts. Find a site that has the correct engine displacement for the correct year. 94 6.5s came out with an electronic injection pump, so certain fuel related parts wont interchange.

I was just unsure if i should just order exhaust under 94 vs 93 due to the gray area. With so many companys offering exhaust kits its tough to pick the best option. Ie company and year due to my application.

SS Diesel supply specializes in 6.5 td parts for the 93 - good prices for quality 4" exhaust parts & kits.

Expensive freight to Canada, but shouldn't be too bad to where you live

Diamond Eye kit for the 94 will be just fine and be economical-site sponsors here are good vendors so use them when you can like Alligator Performance.

Here is the kit you need and shipping is still reasonable to Canada:
Seems they only sell proflow now-no experience with it?
Flo~Pro 822 4" Turbo Back Exhaust for 1994-2000 GM 6.5L Turbo Diesel

Flo~Pro SS822 4" Turbo Back Stainless Steel Exhaust for 1994-2000 GM 6.5L Turbo

Summit also sells Diamond Eye:

I avoid SS Diesel-bad customer service reputation.
