Hey all, new here and i need some info on a tranny swap. I have a 1994 1 ton 6.5 with a 4L80E of course. Anyhow tranny is pretty well gone. Got to the point of shifting very hard and there is quite a bit of clutch material in the pan.

A friend of mine had a 1996 1 tone 6.5 with a 4L80E also 170,000 miles. His engine went out due to a oil cooler line blowing and i bought the truck for parts. I was wanting to swap transmission out of this 96 into my 94 but i am being told by a few mechanics that the 96 trans will not work in a 94 for 2 reasons.

#1 the wiring is different and can not be altered to work( this i dont believe )

#2 the safety neutral switch or the black box on the side of the tranny can not be used with the electronics in a 1994 truck. ( this kinda goes with #1)

Any info on this?

 

I think since the computer's are different it won't work, but I hope some one that knows more about trans than I do will chime in here.

 

A guy told me the 96 would work just the same as the 94 trans would if you could get them hooked up correctly. He knew of a guy that claimed he did it but couldn't remember how he did it.

Any 4L80E vets out there know how to make it work?
