What keeps the precups in the head when you get ready to install the head on the motor? Are they a press fit?

half of the precup is siting on the deck of the block.

What holds it in the head so when I go to put the head back on it don't fall out. I have one that when I pick up to put on block the cup will fall out and wondering if it is worn and should pe a press fit.
