ac compressor problems

Default ac compressor problems

the ac compressor just went in my 1997 2500 chevy 6.5 for a second time, i was wounding if there are any free spinning pulleys to replace the system with and get rid of the whole problem

Yes,you can go to your local parts store and get a replacement pulley that is just a wheel on a bracket.

I tryed that and they just told me they don't make them for 1997 he only could get them for 95 and older ?

Maybe some one else will chime in here but I think they should be the same.I can't say for sure though.

I got this off another thread. You might like to look at a different serpentine belt.

"Just to provide info for future searchers:

There is a compressor bypass pulley available at Napa, part number BK
6601803, list price is 31.99.



This compares to 10 or 20 for the bearing, 100 or so for a new clutch, 180-320 for a rebuilt/new compressor.

I definitely would prefer to have the A/C working again some time, I'm sure, even if it's when I move that rig on to a new owner, so I may chat with the local independent shop to see what kind of labor charges I'd be incurring. I'm willing to take on many jobs but I'd sure not like to vent any refrigerant left in the system.

I will also check with local shops to see if any have the GM puller/installer tool available, without which the bearing replacement just won't happen."
