Default CDR Valve?

Okay, I've always wondered what that tube was that ran into the intake right before the turbo and saw somewhere that its called the CDR valve. I was wondering what the heck it does and why is it leaking oil.

Do a search for CDR and PCV. You will find an abundance of information on the topic. The short answer to your question is that it sucks the fumes out of the crankcase and that process can lead to the sucking of fine oil particles that accumulate over time.

Yeah, I did a bunch of research on it last night and figure I need to clean mine, thanks for the response.

If I do need a new on, where is the cheapest place to get one?

Just soak it in some diesel and blow it out it will be good as new

Just got done doing that, why do they leak so much?

I called all the local big name parts stores and no one carried it. Tried Nappa and no luck. So I called the dealer who gave me som part numbers
GM#25098706 or same part AC Delco #CV916. The dealer actuially told me the supply house downtown they order tham from and said if I went and got it myself it would save me his $30 mark up!

Place is called Southeren Distributors in downtown Birmingham. Sells for $66.51. I tried cleaning the one on my Burb with 220K miles and it still was dumping alot of oil into the turbo feed tibe so I bought the new one and that did cut down on the amount of blowby oil I got into the turbo quite a bit. I may hace not cleaned the old one long enough (did soak it all night) but the new one worked with less blow by. You can do a google search with the AC delco part number and several online suppliers will pop up. Priced from $40 - $60 plus shipping.

I am planning on cleaning the one on my new to me GMC and then replacing it with a new one when I can afford it. It looks to be very old.

Well the Carquest in Butte, MT seems like my best bet, its a special order only for 55 bucks and Napa is the only other one who can get one at $100 plus shipping. I haven't tried the GM dealership yet, but when I had starter problems, they said they don't carry 6.5 parts anymore.

Don't have much experience with these, only around 10k mile or so in about 2 years time, but how can you tell how much blow by you're getting and how these things are supposed to behave, I soaked mine for 4-5 hours and the inside looked clean to me. After cleaning it, don't notice any difference in performance or anything.

$55 is a good deal on a new one based on what I have seen. Especially when you can put your hands on it first versus mail order.

As for how to tell if they are working all I can say is that I noticed after changing to the new one that on my Burb' 6.5 it had about 1/2 or even less of the oil present in front of the turbo turbine if you pulled the air intake tube off than it would have had with the old CDR.
I know because every time I had to disconnect the battery I had to pull the 'cold air intake' that someone had put on and it required pulling the air tube off the turbo. It also leaked far less oil around where the CDR connects to the air intake for the turbo.

As for reccomended change intervals I thought I read somewhere to change them about every 30K miles - but don't quote me on that.

Let us know if you get a new one and if so how , if at all, it performed differently or if it leaked less oil down the tube.

I talked to Carquest and they do have to order it, but they told me $55 and I'd have to pickup it up when ready (4-5 days) since the 6.5 isn't popular I found that a lot of autopart stores only do special orders and that's the deal with Carquest, they showed me a picture of it and it was the same thing already on the pickup. I just cleaned it this week so we'll see if it continues to leak, I did only do a 4 hour soak instead of all night, so before I go buying a new one, I'll soak it all night and day if I have to, don't really drive all that much.

When I first bought mine, I took the air filter out cause there was a 1/8 in of oily dirt on the per-filter and noticed that there was oil everywhere in the stock intake, there is only oil in my rubber doughnut now on the cold air.

I too heard 30k miles, but I figured a good soaking at every service or every other service ought to keep it working.

Certainly try an all night soaking - could save you the $$. Sounds like you do not have a lot of oil in the area just before the turbine fins so that is a good thing. Since you do not drive it much the soak all night approach would be the next step - good point too about soaking it at the oil change intervals or every 10K miles as a preventative.
