Default school bus help

Hi and thankyou for your responce. By bad i mean the 6.5 blew a head gasket and pitted the block and head pretty deep so i got the truck cheep and thought it might be a easy swap. bus has 125000 on it so don't want to spend much on it. If u need any thing else let me kno.

125000 miles isn't anything for a diesel. Mine got 1985xx and running strong. Anyway it sounds like the engine is shot. The 6.5 and 6.2 used the same block and were very similar engines. The 6.5 was turbocharged and had a bit more electronics, but switching from 6.5 to 6.2 should be easier than 6.2 to 6.5. I think the 6.2 is mostly if not all mechanical and I'd imagine being the same block the 6.2 would hook up to the transmission in the bus. And better yet, I think you can take the exhaust system off the 6.5 and put it on the 6.2 and turbocharge your 6.2, cause its probably not strong enough to move a bus. I don't think that your 6.2 being a 24 volt has anything to do with a swap, all diesels have 2 batteries anyway, I think it means you got the military 6.2, which I'm pretty sure is all mechanical. That's why the military swapped everything to diesels, even with less power, without all the computers and spark plugs, they will still run in case of a nuclear world war, at least that's what my dad said.

Anyways most the 6.2 and 6.5 stuff should be compatible.

Pretty much what you want to do is swap all the external parts from the 6.5 to the 6.2 longblock.

The 6.5 IP will need to be used on the 6.2 and the timing must be set with a scan tool electronically or at least checked after a relearn procedure is done and adjusted accordingly-search KOKO relearn.

The timing chain set and timing cover and balancer will also need to be changed from the 6.5 to the 6.2 so the reluctor on the crank gear will be in place for the CPS to function.

Also the 6.2 glow plugs will need to be replaced with bosch duratherm 12v glows,as well as the in head coolant sensor and OPS.

Swaping the frt of the engine is correct.
For a 6.2 with a turbo all that is required for an oil feed is:
Tee into the oil pressure switch port and connect the turbo oil line there as well as the OPS.

The 6.5 intake will be required for the turbo.
