First timer,I know nothing about diesels.Recently picked up this truck. It has 150,000 miles, cab is in great shape. My dad and I bought it for scrap. He is insisting that we scrap it and make a few hundred bucks. After checking it out,I want to keep it.He thinks diesels are junk.It doesn't run at the time, but I have been reading on here, and have a good idea where to start, such as the lift pump. Are these good trucks,or are they a nightmare to keep going?I am mechanically inclined so I would be able to do my own repairs.Any insight will help. Also what size engine does this have? What type of mileage do they get? Thanks for the space!!

150,000 miles on it if it has halfway been took care of is'nt even broke in yet these 6.5's go alot father than that and the gasser mentality is that all Diesels are junk but it will out perform any of the big 3 gas burners on the market and my 6.5 gets kick *** fuel milage compared to my gas burner at least 10 more miles to the gallon

OK first thing you need to do is open the filter housing at the back of the top part of the engine this may requier you to remove the diesel power cover then run a wire from a positive terminal on a battery to the G terminal on the ALDL port under the dash this will make the LP(lift pump) to run if it is good fuel will come out of the top of said housing,Oh do not loosen the whole top just the part about the size of a half dollar it has a spout on top of it make sure you have 2 good batteries in the truck

Haven't been her for a while,my home computer sucks,it won't load your site. Thanks for the input.I have been playing with it a little.First,I do not see a lift pump in the frame rail, all that is there under the drivers door is an inline filter.Could someone have eliminated it???I found the bleeder and yet to get fuel by cranking it,I will try the method descibed by Mayhem, but without a lp probably not doing me any good.Another question, the rubbber lines that run from one injector to the next, what are they for? They are all shot and need replacing.Should you be able to hear or feel the fuel pump relay kick in?Also what is the pmd? Thanks again. Will be back asap.

OK the item that looks like an inline filter along the frame rail is the LP-it should have 2 wires exiting it.
The rubber lines that exit the injectors are return lines-many return line kits available on ebay or go to your local small engine supply and get appropriately sized tygon line to replace with-cut to length yourself.
If the rear block off plugs are bad you can join the 2 rear injectors together across the bacjk of the engine.
The PMD is the black box that controls the IP to deliver fuel to the injectors,in stock form they are located mounted to the drivers side of the IP-most buy a heatsink and extension harness and relocate a new PMD outside the engine bay for long life.
