noisey lifter
ok so im lookin at a 93 2500 suburban 6.5 td with 344xxx on it and buddy says it say for a few months and when he fired it up it sounds like it has a noisey lifter now ...any ideas what this could be ? and is it worth the $700 he askin for it ?
Have to decide value based on what you see.
Lifters are not that hard to change except for the need to remove the turbo when doing the passenger side.
Sometimes substituting 1 liter of ATF for 1 liter of motor oil when doing an oil change can clean the varnish from a noisy lifter, just change the oil again once the noise is gone before working the engine. If after 1/2 hr idle time it is still noisy, lifter replacement is needed.
But it might be something even easier like a broken rocker button-if it has a miss 1 of the plastic buttons that locates the rocker arms may have broken and disabled a valve causing the noise?
