Hi guys i kust recently bought this truck, I was told it was shut off with the key and couple hours later it just wouldnt start again. i got new batts new starter changed 5 weak glowplugs, draind tank put in fresh fuel. Started the bleedin process got all air out and have good pressure from lift pump have fuel in ip and to the injectors now... While cranking i noticed it smokes almost as much from the intake as it does from the exhaust.( greyish black smoke). It tries to fire once and a while BUT WONT START!!!!!!!!!

 

Smoke from the intake would indicate compression loss through the intake valves.
While sitting they may have begun to rust?

You might try spraying WD40 into the intake while cranking as a starting aid-DO NOT use ether.

 

I agree with the thought of the valve issue. I know enough not to use the ether on diesel engines. also tore engine done partial (waterpump and front timing cover) checkd timing its good and chain like new (tight) and gears for ip to cam are also like new yet. I'm most likely removing engine this week drop in a 6.2 NA, ta get the truck up and running. gonna tear 6.5 down till find the problem most likely freshen it new bearing rings n gaskets before re-install.

 

If you can get it running with the block heater plugged in and a shot of WD it may sort itself out once oil get circulated again?

 

it tries to fire with heater plugged in but just wont fire enough to go tried shot of wd still nothing Was plugged in for about 5 days so it was nice and warm and still justy spit a lil like a chevy 350 that was choked out and flooded
so to speak
