Default 6.5 engine back pressure

Hello all, I am a newbie. Please forgive me now. I have a 94 chevy blazer with a 6.5. 134k miles. NEW project so I dont have all the history.MY question is while this engine is running ,there is smoke coming out of the dip stick hole. Is this a indicater of worn, collapsed rings, or the vacuum pump not working? It runs rough, some white some. Like I said it is new project. Any ideas, checks I can make. Thank you jeff

The CDR or "tuna can" is meant to maintain a vacuum on the crankcase from the turbo drawing the vapors out.

Replacing the CDR with what most parts stores call a PVC valve often solves the problem unless there is sever engine damage.

The CDR can also be cleaned if done so properly, google "6.5 diesel CDR cleaning procedure".
