Can anyone recomend a good brand name relocation kit. The cheapest i found is $76 but that doesn't come with the new gasket i need. I bought a used pmd so i need a kit with the gasket,heat sync and 6 foot cable. All opions are welcome.

 

You get what you pay for when it comes to PMD's . Get the good one first, and you wont be stranded on the side of the road in a few weeks with a worthless pmd relocation kit. I have only owned my truck for a month, and ran into this problem, becuase the previous owner was cheap when i came to purchasing a PMD

 

Shop around and buy a new PMD and kit,only try the used PMD when you are close to home to prove it out when everything else is proven in working order.

A used PMD is a nightmare when you are trying to diagnose a problem,because it often is a prob in of itself.
No start hot,stalling and plain old no start or even runaway engine can all come from the used PMD's since there is no test other than to drive with it installed and have no problems.
A PMD that will activate an IP on a test stand for a few seconds don't mean anything in the real world,if they even get tested that much.
Besides the people selling used PMD's are IP rebuilders for the most part and most IP's sent for rebuild only needed a new PMD.

But to answer your question,if you are handy you can get a computer CPU heatsink about 2-3 times the size of the PMD with large fins and drill and tap it yourself.
And if you are any good at soldering,then stertching the PMD harness is childs play.
Note: if you do stretch the harness yourself use at least the same gauge wire as the harness itself and only lengthen 1 wire at a time-the harness has a crossover from end to end and if that gets mixed up you won't be going anywhere or be very happy.

Watching ebay is worth a shot as well,joeyeraif an ebay seller often has penny auctions on heatsinks and extension harnesses and you can add a resistor on checkout.

Often other vendors are selling Dorman branded flight systems PMD's for around $160 and it has been reported that autozone has a lifetime warranty on their PMD's-worth a lot just for that.

While you are at it get 2 kits,and mount both the new PMD kit and the kit that uses your second hand PMD close enough together that the harness can reach both of them,a spare pigtail in the unused combo will keep it clean for the coming day when you need to make the switch on the side of the road in a storm at night-2 minute job if you are prepared.

All PMD's fail eventually-even new ones so consider the danger of being on the side of the interstate and the tow call involved to get home or help and the spare kit will be money ahead for you in the long run.

 

Do what you want but cheap will get you stranded when it comes to a 6.5 I got my PMD and cable from these guys and I am totaly satisfied

I purchased a PMD kit about 2 years ago, and recently my truck won't start... I'm thinking it is not getting fuel. is there a way to test the PMD to see if it's working correctly? I changed the fuel filter about a week ago and when I tried to bleed the air off..I got no fuel out of the air bleed valve like I usually do?

 

You sound more like you have air in the system than a bad PMD.
You need to solve the fuel problem first since it is likely the whole problem.

On a 95 the oil pressure switch powers the Lift Pump when the engine runs,the LP relay powers the LP when you are using the starter to crank the engine over.
Also check the fuel pump fuse on the firewall near the fuel pump relay,when cranking the engine over that operates the LP,if your neutral safety switch works-putting the truck in drive with it safely parked and having a helper turn the ignition to start should activate the LP to bleed the filter.
Crack 1 injector fuel line loose at the injector to make starting esier-close the line when the engine starts but be careful of moving parts.

You can apply 12 volts to pin G of the ALDL(scan tool plug in)to energize the LP for bleeding purposes and to prove that the LP is working.

If that don't make the pump run check wiring and maybe even replace the LP with a 93 model AC Delco EP158 or Walbro FRC10 or an expensive FASS or AirDog.

Per the diagram a momentary switch/starter bump button wired between terminals 30 and 87 mounted under the hood would be ideal for bleeding filters.

And lastly it is more polite to start your own thread even if the problem seems similar to others.

 

Do not buy from Pensacola Diesel. I made that mistake once.

I got a Dorman PMD instead of a Flight Systems and the resistor box was empty.

I hate the addition of Dorman into the equation.

I had 2 bad gray Standyne PMD's. I will not buy those anymore

From now on strictly leroydiesel.com and Flight Systems PMD's for me.

 

Dorman is still a flightsystems PMD-it is simply rebadged like the rest of the flight systems stable.
