Default 1998 6.5 Died and No start

I have a 1998 chevy 6.5 and i pulled out of my drive way and it shut off like someone turned the key off, it would crank and start for like a second then shut off, i checked the pmd and everything and still cant get it going? Took it to a shop and they said the injector pump is bad. Is that possible for that to happen just like that?

Generaly when these Stanadyne IP's go bad they will have hard start when warm/hot issues when they are cold they will fire right up I suspect that the shop is telling you IP as this will cost more to repair, I personaly suspect a bad PMD

Check the fuel sol fuse.
Then check the fuel shut off solenoid.

Also make sure power is getting to the FSO,ignition switches die on the ECM contacts but still power cranking and accessories.
