Default 93, 6.5, i want it reliable and fuel efficient

hi there, johnny here, new to DB. you guys have a nice sight here. i just bought a 93, single cab flat bed dually 6.5 . my question is, how do i make that engine as reliable and fuel efficient as possible with out braking the bank. are there some things that need to be done before others. i will be using this truck to pull and enclosed trailer. we race midgets, and plan on traveling a lot next year

thanks in advance

Prior to 1997 6.5 diesels had poor cooling abilities leading to cracked heads and block to fix this problem ss diesel supply has a cooling upgrade kit with ho water pump a hf thermostat and a bigger fan this kit is around 300$ and the best investment for a pre 97 6.5 td also id slap on a cold air intake as far as mpg s go
