Default 1995 K2500 6.5

1195 Burban k2500 6.5l 216xxx

New to the world of owning a diesel. I trade for it so Im learning as I go here. It has had the PDM relocate done, now sits in front of radiator. He said it has a #9 in it. No clue. As far as other mods I do not think so. My questions are:

1. It seems to carry little oil pressure. above 20 at start up and driving. drops to near zero at idle. I changed the oil and added some Lucas. running Rotella 15w40 oil. Is this normal for the 6.5 with 216xxx ? No noises runs good.

2. I only hear the turbo whistle every once in a while. I think the vacuum wastegate is junk. I do not have a vacuum gauge but just by moving the rod there is little to no resistance and doesnt seem to change anything. I plan on doing the manual wastegate mod this weekend and adding a boost gauge.

It seems to be a little sluggish when I do not hear the turbo whistle. Blows a lot of black smoke and sounds like it is doing 150 mph but just doing 55. Seems the more throttle I give it the more black smoke it pours out. Doesnt seem to make anymore power.

I h\ave read a lot of posts on here and it seems Crazy knows a lot so am hopeful that he will respond.

sounds like you need to change the OPS but you should try to get a AC/DELCO brand OPS stay away from the it is cheaper parts at your local parts stores as for a #9 resistor if you unplug your PMD and look inside the female end of it you may see a yellowish chip in there if so it will have a #5 or a #9 on it if there is black in there you do not have one good luck with your 6.5

my 6.5 lost oil pressure at idle just before it seized up. my turbo kicked the bucket and poured all the oil out through the exhaust.

1. Try changing ops, x2 on acdelco. How is it to the floor? Does it bog and sputter? That can be ops too.

2. Sounds like it, buy a turbo master and you will feel a difference and it is worth the money. Lots of black smoke usually means no turbo activity.

In case you weren't aware, crazy had passed away a few months ago.

I was unaware of his passing - may he rest in peace.

Seems to be a little dogish when no turbo whistle is heard and of course blows smoke. I checked the vacuum at the wastegate controller today. No gauge but was hard to pull hose off when engine is running. Also with engine off I could manually move the controller and plug the hole and it would hold the pressure and could feel it "suck in" on my finger.

I will change out the OPS this week. Thanks ebarresi for your reply.

well I ventured into doing the manual waste gate controller and added a boost gauge. a few extra trips to a few different hardware stores to find everything but well worth it. I put in too weak of a spring first so was only able to get about 5 pounds of boost. I finally made a trip to my local home depot and got the right spring. A few adjustments and I got it set to get 10 pounds of boost under full throttle. Another thing I did different was I used a flat washer on both ends of the hard rubber washer. I also used my dremel tool and did some grinding to the nylon bushing holder that the J hook slides through. now the spring sits more on a center point then sitting off to the side. I also used a regular nut plus a ny-lock nut to lock the adjustment in place. Works like a champ.

Before the mod work my waste gate wasnt working right as under full throttle I had little to no turbo whistle and LOTS of black smoke. Now I can actually hear the turbo spool up and drop off with throttle movement.

I also cleaned and re oiled the KN air filter. AM hoping to increase performance which hopefully so some improvement on full mileage.

Next mod in store is exhaust. here is what Im looking at - the Diamond eye 4 in system. should I go with a muffler or not ? I dont care about the noise from the exhaust. Is there any performance / mileage gain for not using a muffler ?
