Voice Activated Computer Programs
Ok so I'm a computer dummy, I couldn't even figure out what to title this thread. I know I have seen programs that you can talk to and it will type the words on the screen. I have a friend with bad hands and can't sit at the keyboard long enough to use a computer. What programs out there would work for him to be able spend time on sites like this and do they actually work or are they still just a waste of money.
I have used one years before with wordperfect called dragon naturally speaking
It does work but it takes about 3 hours to train it!
here is a link to a newer version http://www.nuance.com/naturallyspeaking/
just copy and paste into browser
hope this helps

That's the kinda thing I was lookin for ya. Anybody ever use it though to know if it's actually usable by the average person or do you have to be a speech teacher with perfect grammar and an IT speacialist to make it all work right.
when I used it with word perfect 2000 it made some mistakes but it was very workable and easy to install.
since that was 8 years ago I would think it has gotten alot better.
check around their website there might be a trial program to see if it is workable for ya

there are a few out there but i think they are mostly for document/dictation type of thing. how would it know what box to go to and to type in? i guess if he could use the mouse to hilight it it *might* work..... i dono. it's definately worth lookin' into. there has to be something out there for people with disabilities to be able to use the computer......
