Ya until you get stuck or a earthquake those rocks at 1500' are a PIA the deepest I've made it is 2500'. Hove you got down and found any of the gems yet how deep? I go down 1500' in a few places looking for treasure and such.

You need to upgrade to a better rig. And in the store all the way to the right you can buy stuff that helps.
