Default ATTN Houston Area Diesel Owners- READ THIS

Those of you that live in the area have seen the billboards that have the number posted to report an excessively smoking vehicle. This policy was first implemented to get old vehicles off the road that were not meeting emissions and were causing lots of pollution. I've just been informed by a friend of mine who is a DPS officer that they have now been informed to stop any diesel pick-up that is producing excessive smoke. They have caught on to the high performance mods and the smoke they produce. He tells me that they are instructed to write a ticket and immediately have the truck emissions tested. If it doesnt pass emissions then the truck is to be impounded. He also told me that this policy is starting in Houston but is expected to be adopted by all the other law enforcement agencies in every major metropolitan area in Texas.

Looks like the DSP2 and DSP5 switches are going to come in more handy than expected.

Yes, I've noticed on 290 there have been 6 of them spaced out over the last three months.

Thats the reason for the emissions test. When they do the test in Houston the first thing they do is check the ECM for any codes or injector faults. My truck was done a couple of months ago.

I figured this was comin. Its a shame that the environmentalists groups can do pretty much whatever they want without any valid facts to support them.

Actually the city of Houston did and had very valid reasons for cutting emissions back. Our smog situation was causing lots of environmental and health related problems. They implemented car pool incentives and tax breaks to try and reduce the number of vehicles used during rush hours. They even encouraged motorcycle riders to use their bikes and give them access to the HOV's as well as gas reimbursement. With a city of over 2M people you can imagine the amount of NoX's being emitted during the morning and evening hours. I think the targeting of modded diesel trucks if more of a safety issue than an emissions issue.

Yeah, it might be a safety thing. I think alot of people see the black smoke and think we are polluting 10 times as much as there gasser cars when we all know thats not true. Thats all I was sayin
