ATTN Houston Area Diesel Owners- READ THIS
Those of you that live in the area have seen the billboards that have the number posted to report an excessively smoking vehicle. This policy was first implemented to get old vehicles off the road that were not meeting emissions and were causing lots of pollution. I've just been informed by a friend of mine who is a DPS officer that they have now been informed to stop any diesel pick-up that is producing excessive smoke. They have caught on to the high performance mods and the smoke they produce. He tells me that they are instructed to write a ticket and immediately have the truck emissions tested. If it doesnt pass emissions then the truck is to be impounded. He also told me that this policy is starting in Houston but is expected to be adopted by all the other law enforcement agencies in every major metropolitan area in Texas.

wow thanks for the heads up, ill ask my old man if he knows anything about this hes HPD. i have seen more of those emissions surveyors around the freeway taking readings ans such.
Ah i cant wait till i get efi live with a dsp5 switch on it. poor cummins guys they're gonna get with that.
what if some one just happens to have bad injectors and they impound him anyway. what would they do then.

Thats the reason for the emissions test. When they do the test in Houston the first thing they do is check the ECM for any codes or injector faults. My truck was done a couple of months ago.

Actually the city of Houston did and had very valid reasons for cutting emissions back. Our smog situation was causing lots of environmental and health related problems. They implemented car pool incentives and tax breaks to try and reduce the number of vehicles used during rush hours. They even encouraged motorcycle riders to use their bikes and give them access to the HOV's as well as gas reimbursement. With a city of over 2M people you can imagine the amount of NoX's being emitted during the morning and evening hours. I think the targeting of modded diesel trucks if more of a safety issue than an emissions issue.
