Fuel Oil furnace !!
Anybody know anything about Armstrong Air ultra 80 oil furnaces ? ......coldest night of the year so far and it's been locking out.....works fine after a reset.....runs and heats ...kicks off when it hits thermostat setting.....just will not reignite after it shuts down....gotta go down and hit the reset.....and away it goes......

If you have to push the reset it means that you hit the high limit on the heat exchanger.
This is usually caused by low air flow.
How often do you change the filter? (keep in mind that the 90 day filters are rarely good past 30 days.)
Do you have A/C on this furnace? If so check the A-Coil or Slant coil to see if it's plugged with dust or lint. You will only be able to check this if you have a removable front on the coil box.
If all of the above has been checked and is ok:
Do you have the option on the thermostat to run the furnace all the time? If so try this, then if it still trips the reset it may be a bad hi limit switch.

Thanks for the info ! would that make it only mess up twice ? .......I only had to hit the reset twice (in a row) .........reset run through a full heat cycle shut off no restart........hit restart again.......it's been ok ever since...that was last Sunday morning.....works like a champ now but I am afraid to trust it now
I would at least check for restricted air flow because it's an easy fix that will save you money in the long run through better heating and cooling efficiency.

Do you have a oil filter in the oil line that feeds the furnace? If its outside it may be freezing or gellng up. The other thing if your lines are exposed outside they could also be freezing.
Take a trouble light and hang it or lay it right on the line comming out of the tank. and for tonight through a blanket on te est of the exposed oil line.
use a trouble light with a 100 watt bulb if you have one.
