Default Winter time

Well it's winter time again and since this year it is law in germany to have winter tires.

Today I saw a bunch of people sliding around on the fresh snow causing a lot of damage. The driver on the lane next to me didn't let of the pedal. He smashed into the cars in front of me with full speed. He didn't even try to break.
How silly is that? When I passed the damaged vehicles and after being questioned by the police I took a close view on the tires. We have snow since two months. And people still drive around with summer tires or Mud/AT threads thinking they provide enough grip in winter conditions?

Do you have the same things in the US?
Even the cheapest set of real winter tires is cheaper than repair of body and frame damage.

You have to have All Season Radials here at least.
Snow tires do make a difference,I have them on my BMW(LSD)just incase I get caught in some snow.

The Autobahn is closed- to dangerous!

here you can run any tire as long as it it d.o.t. approved but snow tires help and 4 wheel drive.

I don't think theirs a requirment here.. but the roads are covered with gravel all the time ...and we cant put salt out cus of moose and other huge wildlife.. the only people here that have studded tires are gover/city cars and trucks
