I am a union electriction but i am an inside wireman actually a 3rd year apprentice so not a journeymen yet. I would say go for it but defitnely get into a union the benefits, retirement, and brotherhood are awesome. It is a good job lineman I have worked around don't hve to bust their butts to much on a regular old day but i would imagine it gets crazy when it storms. Which is the #1 bad point imo that you are out in the weather all the time which here in ohio it gets awful cold in the winter and sucks. Look into inside commercial and industrial electricians in your area and see what you think find what IBEW local union hall is close to you and talk to someone there. Definitnly a good trade people are always going to need electricity. good luck

I live in Western NC, are there any union utility companies around here, I thought NC was a non-union state, I may be misinformed.. never hurts to ask
