Just Bought a New 4 Wheeler
I gave my 2002 King Quad to my dad and went and bought a 2009 Honda Rancher 420 ES ,
water cooled 420cc OHV longitudinally mounted engine with electronic fuel injection. I paid the extra $ and got the Power-steering and thumb operated electronic power shifting system Model , i also bought a Warn Winch and a 48" snow plow. I did not go with the Auto/Manual option because i do not like independent rear suspension on a quad for the kind of riding i do. if you have ever rode in a pack with strait axle rear ends and independents you will quickly see where the advantages and disadvantages are, you cannot flip your rear end around corners with Independent... you will end up laying in the trees. how ever for slow rock climbing ect Independent is the best .. 4 wheel drive engages slikly smooth and gear shifts are completely effortless and if you in high water you dont even need your feet on the floor boards the Electronic Fuel injection is a god send ... no more cold nature and hard starts , even has a sealed battery !! which is a big deal to me being liquid cooled with a fan is a must my 2002 king Quad would over heat all the time unless you opened it up wot every 30 mins of riding. Power Steering ,,, my goodness this is a dream , can turn on black top with your pinky finger so far ive been an owner for 1 hour and im outta here and hitting the trails :) http://lh6.ggpht.com/_OtfEKaNmJJ0/TF...2016.41.50.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_OtfEKaNmJJ0/TF...2016.42.10.jpg http://lh3.ggpht.com/_OtfEKaNmJJ0/TF...2016.42.22.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_OtfEKaNmJJ0/TF...2016.42.01.jpg |
EXCELLENT CHAD:tu::jump::yeah:I sold my 2007 ARCTIC CAT 400 4X4 IRS & missed it so much, that I bought a 2003 SUZUKI VINSON 500 4X4 solid axle. I do a lot of MUDDING wish my VINSON had IRS:argh:
|
got some riding in , then spent and hour cleaning it :D
love my new quad , I could of bought a 12V puller :( i have $8,000 in this quad with the plow and winch ect.. |
$8,000 :scare2:

Death-trap wastes of money... No good can come from it. It's better to sit on the couch and watch porn man...

i heat with fire wood , and i have 500 yards of driveway to plow snow off every winter or i cant go to work. cannot take a tractor and plow the hill i would be dead , the 2002 King Quad worked its ass off for 8 years , i figured it would be close to $2000 to get it where i would need it for this winter , there is no not being prepared. its either get things in place or be stranded.
my dad dont have a 4 wheeler and i told him he could have my 2002 if he wanted and i gave him the number for a guy that will tare it all down and give it some tlc , the snow plow was also damn near destroyed , i figure about $100 and a few hours of welding and it will be use able .. so i was looking at the investment ... and i have been married 12 years today and was talking to my wife about a new quad and she told me to go buy one.... so i did, 2 hour later i was on the over grown trails i used to ride with my king quad before i trashed it |
nice ride chad. i got a old rancher

https://www.dieselbombers.com/bomb-s...663-ds90x.html damn ive spent alot of money on atvs :D |
OK, esplain your solid vs. indepentant rear axle flipping around logic again. :humm:
|
when riding dirt (woods) trails and you come to a corner when you have a strait axle rear end you can punch it and throw your weight around and kick the rear end loose and whip it around the corner, like power slide around it i guess
how ever , try that with an IRS and the outer tire buckles under the quad and pitches you off the seat into the trees i know from experiences :scare2: I load up the big tailor today its 4 feet wide and 8 feet long , i would say i was 2 times the suggested towing weight and i was going up a winding 45* hill , now my 2002 would of powered out , the Rancher just blew threw the rear tires and i had to put it in 4x4. IRS has better traction but that can be good or bad , sometimes you want to kick the rear loose. I also learned that gearing is a major factor the 2002 king quad has like 21 different combination and with the IRS i could put it in super low Diff lock and pull backwards quads with twice the CC, pretty impressive! ive had my new rancher to 48 MPH , from the videos ive seen its rev limited to 55MPH , for about $400 i can get a pipe and tuner for it , but i think its fine the way it is , would rather ditch the factory rims before i do anything ....well first thing is to pay it off , my goal is 2 years :rocking: |

OIC. Never thought of that. I've always rode solid rear axle quads.

put the warn 2500# winch on today nice fit looks like it belongs on there , took me all damn day to put it on , what with being real careful with all the newness :D ,
i extended the red (switch wire) to behind the battery and posi-tapped into the ING fuse wire winch works pretty slick , i was pulling a log off the trail and got it caught between 2 trees , it was about a 7" tree 1/2 dead , i kept cranking on the winch thinking i could just break the tree but it drug me towards the tree :D |

I don't get the anti-independent rear suspension thing. I ride a Can Am Outlander 800. It has independent rear and it's a 4X4. It has a 2" lift and 28" Outlaw mud tires on it and I can drift a corner like it's nothing. I just goose the throttle and kick it it slides just fine. Never has tried to roll on me.:humm:

Congrats on the new ride :tu:
Wish I still had my Polaris, sold it to finish my CJ but man I loved that thing and never had a problem with drifting the corners with the IRS. |
love the bike, honda is the only bike I would ever buy, been trying to talk the wife into a new 420 to replace her old 300,I want it for hunting:w2:,too hard to hunt on my trx450r unless you plan on hitting it:ouch:

Nice ride DM!:tu: It's hard to beat a good quad. I've got an '08 Polaris 700 X2 that has treated me very well so far. It's a yard work doin, firewood fetchin, snow pushin beast! A 60" Razor plow, set of good tire chains on the rear and 240lbs of sand bags in the "bed" combined with my fat ass and it's amazing the amount of snow it'll shove around.
On a side note, have you ever rode in Wayne National Forest? There isn't CRAP available up here as far as ATV trails are concerned and we're thinking of heading down there this coming week while on vacation. Attachment 45823 |
Perry State Forest has atv trails its beside my house

Cool! Looks like nice wooded trails, at least in the pics I saw. Very well may have to check it out. Thanks boss.:tu:
|
IRS is nice if you do a lot of trail ridin on steep or uneven terrain, but for spinnin the ass end around solid axle is definitly the way to go. I used to love blowin doughnuts on the snow and Ice on my 98 Grizzly 600, man I miss that thing. Looks like a nice ridin spot you have there DM, NY state sucks for public ridin areas except for snowmobiler's :c:

X2 there 800 renegade is SICK!!
Im with these guys , anyone who doesn't like independent rear suspension because it wont slide, needs to drive a real bike, I have an 07 renegade 800, with a pipe, intake , power commander, and a dalton clutch kit. Ill let you ride it , and slide it around some corners (assuming your man enough to handle it), providing that your prepared to eat crow afterwords. :tu: |

Those are some huge tires. They take up my whole screen. Nice rims:tu:

Hey boss. Was down your way yesterday (Friday) and checked out Perry Forest. It was pretty cool, though the far back reaches of the RED trail were a little tight and gnarly for a 900-lb 2-up machine. Still had a good time though.
Headed into New Lex to eat at Wendy's but didn't see a green 2nd gen I recognized anywhere along RT-13 :w2:. Think I may have seen your brother though, coming off of I-70 hading south. Got stuck behind a black Mega with a dieselbombers.com sticker and monster eyes looking at me from the back window! lol Thanks for the recommendation dude. I'm sure well be back.:tu: |
Re: Just Bought a New 4 Wheeler
